5 Big Mistakes Can Take Your Business Down!

I noticed lately I've been giving a lot of ideas on how to make your work from home company even more successful. But today, I thought I'd point out some things that can sink your business like a twenty pound stone.

1. Taking the short term view. If you are always thinking about tomorrow, or next week or next month -- eventually next year will hit you right between the eyes. Some new invention, or service will have come along that knocks the need for your product or service way off balance. You've got to see your business way into to the future. You've got to look at your strengths, your weaknesses, your opportunities and your threats now. Understand them and know how to use them to build make your top home business strong -- now and in the future.

2.  Put little to no thought into your marketing. If you haven't learned excellent copy writing tools and techniques and you are writing your own copy -- you could be in big trouble. Professional copy writers get paid a boat load of money for good reason. They write copy that sells. So if you are not willing to learn great copy writing skills, then hire someone to write it for you. There is too much competition for your customer to be sloppy with your advertising.

3. Failure to develop a Unique Selling Proposition. Too many times work from home companies don't even know what USP is, much less develop it. Your USP should be able to describe in 50 words or less why your customers should buy from you instead of someone else. If you truly know who your market is, you will be able to easily develop a strong USP -- use it in your strong marketing to set you apart.

4. They have no regard for their customers. This can happen if your top home based business is online or offline. Either way, you've got to learn to develop a great relationship with your customers, you've got to give before you get, you've got to provide continuous value above what they expect. You've got to communicate with them on a regular basis. Get an auto-responder and learn how to use it.

5. They have no idea how to read, understand, and use the data provided by their accountant. It amazes me how few home based small business owners even understand their profit and loss statement, cash flow statements and balance sheets. These simple tools can give you clues as to where your business is strong and where it is weak. They can provide guidance for strengthening the profitable areas of your business and jettisoning the areas that aren't so strong.

Take a look at your operation and see if any of these are you. If so, get some training to make sure you know how to make the necessary improvements to make yours a top home business.
